I did it! Yesterday I did my first triathlon.
It was daunting. Lots of practical things to do which I am not very good at.
H was there to support me and I really appreciated his presence. It is always good to have someone on your side.
The day was beautiful. No rain just sunshine and a cool breeze.
I was one of the first women in the pool as I had put my swim time down as very slow. I chatted to a few of the other women waiting for their race brief. We all looked fairly nervous.
The women were really supportive and funny. Every time the guy tried to do his brief another woman joined the back of the group and then panicked about the loos.
I must have heard 'where are the toilets' about 10 times as he answered and then another cluster of ladies went to the loo before we entered the pool.
His final response to the question above was 'just pee in the pool'. A group of shocked looking faces and then a ' ok, if that's alright.' He had to quickly confirm he was joking before a gaggle of women all peed in the pool. Very funny.
A fab day. I was a little disappointed with my finish time to start with as I put in so much effort but then I told myself (as did H) not to be so hard on myself, it was an achievement. At 43 to do it at all.
It is amazing what you can do if you tell yourself you can. Last year I was telling myself I was too scared to get on a bike. This year I told myself to do it and went downhill without holding onto the brakes for dear life on one section of my cycle. Amazing what my competitive spirit will get me to do.
