Sunshine

It has been an unbelievable summer. We’ve had hardly any rain since May. I’ve started to expect sunshine and blue skies every morning. Waking up and padding around in a shorts and t shirt. Birkenstocks downstairs just waiting for the steps outside.

We had a two week holiday in Northumberland and we had sunshine every day. It was too hot for the dogs. Both suffered and we had to remember to keep them cool. A couple of days we did too much with them. We treated them to doggy ice pops and a kind person lent us a fan.

The grass is scorched and yellow. The land laid bare by unbroken sunshine.

Plants have died, they look pitiful. Even the weeds are wilting.

The cats are lazing languidly on my neighbours shed roof, too hot to even move when the dogs bark.

I have a tan, H says I am the colour of old pine which is a positive as usually I am transparent.

My freckles have amassed and I know I should take photos of my colourful skin, it’s definitely a one off, never to be repeated colour. Unless that is the summers are all heading South, literally with future heatwaves and global warming taking effect.
