Discrimination

I sit in meetings with men. Generally there are no senior females operating at my level in the small organisations I have worked for.  The industry I work in has very few senior females.

I went to a conference last year which was a gathering of senior members of all businesses within my industry and there were 3 females in a room of nearly 200.

In my meetings with men there are often comments which could be described as 'sexist.' What do I do. I usually laugh along and then hate myself afterwards. Sometimes I will say something to try and highlight a point and I would get the comment, it's only a joke or stop being so militant. Sometimes it is only a joke but sometimes it isn't.

I never really used to think about it, I would just get on and do my job. As my roles have become more senior I have thought about it more often.

The problem is I don't have an answer. Just do my job to the best of my ability and where I can ask questions of the jokers.
