Shy

I am and have been shy all my life.

I am better than I used to be. When I was in my late teens whenever I met a group of new people I would find it hard to speak. I would stop speaking. This stayed with me for so  long but gradually as I got older I got better as I did more work events. I found a personality I could hide behind.

I laugh alot, and ask alot of questions. I think I may be scary, a laughing interrogator. But mostly people have had a few drinks and generally don't care too much.

However, in recent months I have sort of been trying to make new friends. H is now working alot and shifts. I have worked alot and immersed myself in work. Having time off work has given me chance to reflect. I have friends and they are great but not so many that live near me.

So a few times I have talked to a local lady, she is lovely. I invited her to do a triathlon with me - a little bit optimistic but I thought false bravado may work.

Anyway I now have a friend date and I feel really scared. Like the scared, shy teenager but I am 43 for godsake so I am going to be grown up for once.

New friend here I come. Hope I don't laugh too much too loudly and ask too many questions. Or at least I hope I speak a little bit and am not struck wordless.
